Winter In Narnia Reveal

 Today was a difficult day, but I'm proud of it.

Alpha Gamma Delta hosted it's Winter Wonderland Social: Winter in Narnia!

I'm Vice President of Scholarship and Social for Alpha Gamm, so I am in charge of everyone's grades and of all our parties.  It was so exciting to be planning an official event!   It was wonderful to be elected by my sisters who believed that I could do the job.

The event was a tremendous success, we were all complimented on our food and decorations.  We even had a surprise visit by the owner of a newly opened Little Caesar's who brought us two free pizzas to munch on while we scrambled behind-the-scenes!

The snow waterfall was simply a blue sheer shower curtain.

   

  

We hand-made 100 of our snowflakes, and used 60 doilies and 

64 shatter-proof ornaments for our atmospheric effect.

Cost-effecitve and stunning.

Instead of purchasing disposable dinnerware, 

I dug through our Alpha Gamm heirlooms and 

hauled out all of our mismatched glass teacups.

I borrowed the cupcake stand and used Alpha Gamm silver and glass platters.  

I thought they would add to the snowy opulence of a Narnian Winter.

This wreath looked so cute and was very inexpensive!

These butterballs were handmade and delicious!

I got the help of my boyfriend's family who are masters of this recipe.  

Powdered sugar makes everything yummier and prettier.

Hand made flags make simple animal crackers into Narnian Creatures!

Somtimes called "Puppy Chow" you can find the recipe for these naughty crunchies on the back of any Chex Mix box.

were showcased in glassware and silver.

My first week back to college was canceled because we all got snowed in.  So it was nice to finally have some quality cupcake making time with my best friend and roomie Amber.

I stumbled across this video and after watching realized that the reason the band seemed so familiar was that I'd seen them in concert this past November.  They opened for Needtobreathe at the Tabernacle in Atlanta and my friends and I really enjoyed them.  It's always a treat when you bump into old memories.

Sculpture Fairies

Pure Americana

The sculpture fairies surprised Brenau students Thursday by dropping off several large, quirky and already controversial sculptures on our campus. I should say "We were all agog."

The sculptures were donated by artist Andrew T. Crawford, who crafted "Violin", a popular piece, for our Burd Center 10 years ago. He has given us three of the sculptures ("Bull", "Battleship", and "Launch") on a one year loan and sold "Pure Americana" (the oil can with wings) at "a very good price" he said, "Because I really feel I am part of the university and I love being involved with the school." Thanking the school he said "That commission ["Violin"] was very important to me. It really launched my career."

Edward Gorey

My Dad commented that a lot of my doodling reminded him of the animation played at the intro of the old PBS Mystery Series.  I looked it up and fell in love with the dark whimsy of Edward Gorey.  Illustrator and short story writer, Gorey had the ability to make the macabre merry.  I'm planning on using my Barnes&Noble Giftcard to purchase his Gashlycrumb Tinies, and other short works.  If you'd like a sweet and sinister giggle, I recommend looking into Edward Gorey.  Here's a video of his Epipleptic Bicycle (I'm not sure whether or not he made up the word "epipleptic.")

Pennsylvania Thrift

My grandmother used to work part time in the Pierce Library Thrift Shop in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.  The shop is in an old school house, and we try to stop by and spin away an hour or two with my grandparents. I always snag great deals.  This year I found my first pair of khaki pants, some boat shoes, a cute top and some navy blue Tingley rainboots in which I stomped about gleefully through the Pennsylvania snow.

Breakfast

I’ve been with family in Pennsylvania since the day after Christmas and got home the evening of New Year’s Day.  This morning I enjoyed a delightful breakfast with my new tea pot,  Trader Joe’s Duchess Grey Tea, and my favorite biscotti. 

I always look forward to picking up a bag or two of homemade biscotti in Pennsylvania.  A local woman sells to many bakeries in town, but sells the “butts” on the honor system, leaving the bags of edge pieces outside of her house on the corner in a stall filled with cubbies for each flavor.  I actually prefer biscotti butts to the slim center pieces I see sold in coffee shops.
